Michael B. Thurman is a founding partner and Managing Shareholder of Thurman & Phillips, P.C. Michael possesses extensive experience in business, corporate, business acquisitions, real estate and construction related matters. His experience comes not only from being a practicing attorney since 1976, but also from his practical experience as a principal and director in various entities engaged in real estate acquisition, development, construction, contracting and retail. Although Michael is experienced in many facets of construction law, he focuses on representing subcontractors in contract negotiations, CRLA, TRCCA, collections and is noted for his expertise in perfection and enforcement of mechanic’s liens and claims against property owners, general contractors, municipalities and sureties. Michael also has extensive experience in representing community property owners associations. He has and continues to serve as corporate counsel for several national companies.

Education:
Michael graduated from Texas Tech University with a B.B.A. in 1973. Subsequently, he earned his Juris Doctorate from St. Mary’s University School of Law in 1976.

Professional Memberships & Affiliations:
Michael is admitted to practice in all state courts of Texas. He is also a member of the State Bar of Texas, the San Antonio Bar Association, and a member of the College of the State Bar of Texas since 1991. He is board certified in residential real estate law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell. Michael maintains his memberships in the State Bar of Texas Construction Law, Business Law, Litigation and Real Estate, Probate and Trust sections. Additionally, he is a member of the San Antonio Bar Real Estate and Construction Law sections.

Ed Phillips, Jr. is a founding partner of Thurman & Phillips, P.C. Ed has significant experience in state and federal court litigation, business consultation, collections, creditor’s rights, general corporate matters and family law. In addition to Ed’s civil practice, Ed serves as the Presiding Municipal Court Judge for the three separate communities of Boerne, Texas, Leon Valley, Texas, and Live Oak, Texas.

Education:
Ed earned his B.B.A. in Adverstising and Marketing from Texas Tech University in 1972. Thereafter, in 1976, Ed received his Juris Doctorate from St. Mary’s University School of Law.

Ed is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Texas, the United States Federal District Courts for the Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western Districts of Texas. Ed is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Municipal Courts Association, the San Antonio State Bar Association, the San Antonio Bar Association Fee Dispute Committee, the San Antonio Trial Lawyers Association, the San Antonio Bankruptcy Bar Association and the Kendall County Bar Association. Zachary B. Aoki focuses his practice on trial and alternative dispute resolution. Zachary represents his clients in state, federal, and alternative dispute forums and has significant trial and appellate experience. Examples of industries he has represented include: transportation, oil and gas, real estate, insurance, media, accounting, construction, financial and lending institutions and technology companies. He has written articles on copyright law, insurance law, professional malpractice and trial practice.

Education:
Zachary obtained a B.B.A. from the Hankamer School of Business at Baylor University in 1987. He graduated from Boston College Law School in 1990.

Professional Memberships & Affiliations:
Zachary has appeared in state courts throughout Texas. He is also admitted to practice in the U.S. District Courts for the Western, Northern, and Southern Districts of Texas and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Young Lawyers Association, the San Antonio Bar Association, the San Antonio Young Lawyers Association, and the Texas Bar Foundation. He has served as President, Vice-President and Director for the San Antonio Young Lawyers Association. He is currently on the Board of Directors of the Texas Young Lawyers Association. Zachary has served on several committees including ones that focus on the provision of pro bono representation.
